In West Egg on Monday, September 18th, 1922, the beloveded Jay Gatsby was killed in a murder-suicide arranged by George Wilson, who shot himself dead after. Witnesses reported that George Wilson was mentally unstable due to the recent death of his wife, Myrtle Wilson, after a hit and run car crash that took place on the evening of September 16th. After an odd turn of events, Jay Gatsby was found in his backyard pool by his neighbor, Nick Carraway, Gatsby’s chauffeur, butler, and gardener, with three bullet wounds in his stomach. The shots were heard by one of Gatsby’s chauffeurs but he had not thought anything of them. George Wilson’s body was found just under one hundred metres from the pool area with a loaded handgun and a bullet in his head.
As Gatsby descended into his pool around 2:00pm in the warm afternoon, he asked his chauffeur that if anyone who phoned word, to be brought back to him at the pool area. Sources describe what motivated Wilson to complete this act of violence is his way of finding out who drove the car into his wife, Myrtle Wlison.
On the morning of September 18th, he announced he had a “way of finding out” who killed his wife Myrtle, and left his house in The Valley of Ashes around 2:30 in the afternoon.
The funeral of Jay Gatsby will be held on Friday, September 22nd, 1922 at Holy Spirit Church at 11:00am. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
